JR Hakodate Station, Hakodate City, Hokkaido Region

JR Hakodate Station is the main gateway for the Hakodate City in the Hokkaido Region. This station gained more importance since the Seikan Under Sea tunnel opened between the main Japanese Island of Honshu and Hokkaido. Now there are train services from Aomori side to the Hokkaido Region often, improving the transportation to the Hokkaido Region. Currently there is no bullet train service to Hakodate from the main Island (as of 2014) but plans are underway to extend the Tohoku Shinkansen first to Hakodate and then eventually to Sopporo. This new Shinkansen line will be called Hokkaido Shinkansen. The Seikan Tunnel connecting Honshu and Hokkaido under the Tsugaru Strait is the longest and the deepest operational rail tunnel in the world. Enjoy.
