Video created by Northumberland Snapper: https://northumberlandsnapper.blogspo... Please remember to subscribe if you like our videos. Filmed on 26th August 2022. I visited Great Rocks Junction, which is located near the major limestone quarries of Derbyshire's Peak District. It sits on a busy freight only line between Chinley in the north and Buxton in the south. The through single line between Great Rocks and Buxton South Junctions is token controlled. The whole area has traditional, mechanical semaphore signalling. Peak Forest, home to Cemex's Dove Holes Quarry, is located less than a mile north of Great Rocks; Tarmac's Tunstead Quarry and its associated sidings are located a stone's throw to the south. Tarmac's Hindlow Quarry is located a couple of miles to the south east of Buxton. I arrive to find Freightliner's 66615 (0Z14 from Barrow Hill Up Sidings to Tunstead Sidings) standing at a signal just to the north of Great Rocks, awaiting the road into Tunstead Sidings. Meanwhile to the south, GB Railfreight's 66777 "Annette" (6F78 from Tunstead Sidings to Wellingborough Up Sidings) slowly inches its heaving load of JNA bogie box wagons out of Tunstead and onto the main line. As soon as 6F78 is clear the signaller sets the route for 0Z14 into Tunstead. 66615 was then refuelled by a waiting road tanker. A while later GBRf's 66799 approaches from the north, with its load of empty JNAs for refilling at Hindlow Quarry (4H61 from Small Heath Lafarge to Hindlow). This requires the token between Great Rocks Junction and Buxton South Junction, which the signaller duly hands to the driver, pausing briefly to comment that there is an audience watching from the bridge above! 66799 then powers away into the distance, its accompanying wagons juddering back into action. Next is is DB Cargo's 60044 travelling light for the short south hop from Peak Forest to Tunstead (0P51 from Peak Forest Up Sidings to Tunstead Sidings). Freightliner's 66623 powers northwards with its mixed load of HIA aggregate hopper wagons, with what appears to be crushed limestone at the front and chunky limestone chippings towards the rear. Train 6H41 is destined for Bredbury Tilcon. Finally, we see the reappearance of the Red Team's 60044, this time in charge of a rake of loaded JEA aggregate hopper wagons. Train 6F05 is heading northwards, destined for Northwich Lostock Works. Footage was captured using a Panasonic HC-VX1; https://amzn.to/3vJnqNJ; fitted with a Rode VideoMic Go; https://amzn.to/3rpMeIA
