As we observe Insider Threat Awareness Month alongside Hispanic/Latinx Heritage Month, we recognize the powerful contributions of Hispanic and Latinx professionals in national security, cybersecurity, and insider threat awareness. Moderator: Francisco Laplace, Cyversity Bay Area Chapter Leader Panelists: Marco Palacios & Bob Fabien "BZ" Zinga Marco Palacios is the Pacific Hackers Association President and the Global MDR Customer Success Manager at Fortinet. He started his career in IT and spent over a decade in IT operations before transitioning to Cybersecurity. A Blue teamer by heart, Marco has spent the last eight years specializing in defending organizations and building and implementing modern Security Operations. Marco is also a co-founder of the non-profit Pacific Hackers Association (PHA). Through the PHA, he mentors and advocates for veterans and underrepresented communities to help them find non-traditional paths in the cybersecurity industry. He served in the United States Air Force and deployed as part of “Operation Enduring Freedom.” He holds a Master’s in Cybersecurity, a bachelor’s in information systems, and different industry cybersecurity certifications such as GCIH, GMON, GNFA, GISF, GSEC, GCED, SSCP, CySA+, Net+, and A+. Bob Fabien “BZ” Zinga is the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) at Santa Clara University and an Information Warfare Commander (CDR) in the U.S. Navy Reserve, who is currently serving as the Commanding Officer (CEO-equivalent) of a seventy-two-member unit supporting the dual-hatted Commander of Naval Network Warfare Command (NETWARCOM) and Commander Task Force (CTF) 1010. He has more than 26 years of certified Information Technology experience with expertise in leadership, secure enterprise information technology business operations, and corporate governance in several industries including Higher Education, Federal Government, Defense Industrial Complex, Tech, and Consulting.
