The word “medieval” does not have a happy ring in English and is associated with “dark” and “unenlightened”. For instance, the media have branded the Taliban regime in Afghanistan as “medieval”. The Western Middle Ages, which can be dated from c. 500 to c. 1500, certainly included times of crisis and decay, but also times of astounding creativity and achievement, which are still shaping our civilisation. Fr Michael Lang is giving a series of talks on the history of the Church during this millennial period. The talks will be held in St Joseph’s Hall at the Oratory (Brompton Road, London SW7 2RP) every fortnight on Sunday, 5.30pm to 6.45pm. There will be time for questions and discussion. Forthcoming dates: 5th June, 19th June, 3rd July, 17th July, 31st July, 14th August, 28th August.
