The male cub, around six months old and 9.7 kg, had fractured vertebrae, wounds on its hind leg, hypothermia, dehydration, and liver dysfunction—barely clinging to life. 🐆The cub was named Ling Xiaozhe. It’s been through a lot. ❤️🩹Recovery is still ongoing. Another Snow Leopard Cub Rescued in Qinghai, China — “Ling Xiaomang” A second snow leopard cub has been rescued this year in Qinghai Province, northwest China. The male cub, later named Ling Xiaomang, was first found in early June in Jiuzhi County, Golog Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture. A local herder spotted the animal in poor condition and alerted wildlife authorities. On June 4, the cub was taken to the Qinghai Wildlife Rescue and Breeding Center in Xining. At the time of rescue, it weighed only 11 kilograms, showed signs of dehydration and malnutrition, and had facial wounds that made it unable to stand. Veterinarians provided treatment including rehydration, nutritional support, and wound care. Within a few days, Ling Xiaomang regained the ability to eat and walk independently. Over the following weeks, the cub’s health steadily improved. By late July, it weighed nearly 16 kilograms, capable of climbing and jumping, and even hunting live prey. On August 12, its weight had risen to 17.2 kilograms. It has since been moved into a snow leopard enclosure, where it alternates outdoor exercise sessions with another rescued cub, Ling Xiaozhe. Ling Xiaomang’s case follows the rescue of Ling Xiaozhe earlier this year, highlighting the challenges of snow leopard conservation on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.
