This event addresses instances where artificial intelligence and human clinical judgment do not agree, and why these moments of “human–AI dissonance” may become one of the most consequential frontiers in modern medicine. Through case-based perspectives from radiology, surgery, and nursing, the program explores how clinicians are responding to AI-driven recommendations in real clinical environments. Legal, regulatory, and ethical experts will also address emerging questions of documentation, liability, patient transparency, and shared decision-making. The conversation will look ahead to emerging tools such as digital twins and next-generation clinical infrastructures, exploring how disagreement, accountability, and trust may be intentionally designed into the future of AI-enabled care. Chapters: 0:00 Introdutction 6:22 What is human-AI dissonance and why is it important? 35:25 How should human-AI dissonance be addressed clinically? 2:35:21 How should human-AI dissonance be addressed legally? 3:46:19 How should human-AI dissonance be addressed ethically? 5:09:59 Closing Q & A 5:23:38 Conclusion -- As advances in biotechnology and biomedicine gain momentum, so do issues concerning their ethical, legal, and social implications in the United States and around the world. From stem cell research to healthcare reform, these topics involve critical dilemmas at the intersections of law, society, culture, public policy, philosophy, religion, economics, and history. The Master of Science in Bioethics grounds students in interdisciplinary approaches and models to address the most pressing bioethical challenges. The program prepares students to act as responsible and responsive leaders in this new and ever-growing field. It also includes a concentration in global bioethics – the first of its kind in the U.S. Columbia's Bioethics program offers a range of degrees and courses.
