How to install a Kohler Cimarron, 2 piece Elongated Toilet

In this video I take you through a call where i removed a customers old Kohler lowboy toilet and installed a new 2 piece Kohler Cimarron Elongated toilet that the customer purchased but had me pick up for her at Home depot, The toilet was installed on wooden floors and calked in which can be a pain to remove and deal with when uninstalling a toilet that has been calked on wood floors you dont want to score or damage the wood floor's because the new toilets footprint may be much different than the old toilets footprint and the customer will likely blame you not the original installer. I always recommend against calking a toilet on a wood floor because of this reason and the fact if the toilet's wax ring or flange is ever compromised the toilet will leak from the base and if it is calked that water will have nowhere to go so the wood will absorb the water and begin to discolor and warp all of this can be avoided simply by not calking the toilet to the wood floor. The Kohler Cimarron is a 1.28gpf low flow toilet which is all that is currently legal to install here in Orange County. Only a 1.28gpf or lower toilet is legal to install. Im certain these laws are not shared around the country. I find the Kohler Cimarron to be a decent toilet for the price, I love the mounting system Kohler has come up with to mount the tanks to the bowls. I think that type of innovation and the many different more visibly pleasing styles of toilets, sinks and faucets are what keep Kohler ahead of most of their competition. The downside to the Kohler Cimarron at least here in southern California is the flush valve flapper gasket does not last very long because it is made of a very thin rubber or plastic that deforms and falls apart in hard water plumbing systems after just a year or two and even in most soft water plumbing systems I've only seen them last a couple years longer. This is why I cant as a plumber confidently push my customers toward the Kohler Cimarron over other toilets that I feel will last them much longer because lets face it they are replacing the toilet on my recommendation because they do not want to have to see me and pay me again to repair the toilet atleast for another 5-10 years right? I mean thats what I would expect if I was paying to have a new plumbing fixture installed in my home. So customers look at you kindof sideways when you have to tell them yea I need to charge you to replace the flapper on that toilet I sold you last year because those flappers just suck and ur gonna have to see me every year or two from here on to do the same thing unless you wanna teach yourself how to replace them which is pretty simple but you get the point Im trying to make here right? Im always going to be an Advocate for the homeowner because when they win we win and in the end we all win because when the homeowner is happy with your product im happy to keep providing them with it which makes you happy because you are selling more of your product. I always use 2 wax rings one with flange and one without flange i stack them with the Flanged Waxe sitting ontop of the wax without flange. When you set your toilet you should feel a very satisfying squish as the toilet horn sits into the wax ring's. If you only used one wax ring and you did not feel this squish you need to pull that toilet and use 2 wax rings. I typically recommend replacing the toilet supply line anytime you replace a toilet because the older supply lines are made of inferior plastic which was also much thinner and can get stress cracks very easily Ive seen and heard of this causing lawsuits for plumbers so its worth the extra $10 part if you ask me.
