Just wrapped up the morning session at KASS! So many great talks and new ideas. Had a chance to sit next to my mentors, Dr. Howard An and Dr. Casey Lee… the OGs who started KASS, and honestly, they’re a big part of why I do what I do. Also had the honor of hearing Dr. Rex Marco talk about spinal cord injury research. His work is changing lives for quadriplegic and paraplegic patients, and it’s amazing to see the progress. Dr. Ernest Braxton shared some mind-blowing stuff about awake spinal fusions—patients go home the same day. Pretty incredible. Dr. Ki Eun Chang is also doing endoscopic surgery to avoid fusion, which is huge for patient recovery. Dr. Hun Bae spoke about hybrid constructs, showing how we can avoid multi-level fusions for more flexible outcomes. And of course, Dr. Andrew Chung brought it with his talk on minimal invasive techniques to treat problems that usually require a fusion. If we can minimize collateral damage, we can avoid unnecessary fusions and make recovery so much smoother. The future of spine surgery is looking bright thanks to these Krazians. I’m headed back for more!! Stay tuned for what else happens while I am here!
