What is Full Body Lift Surgery? Recovery time after full body lift - Dr. Srikanth V

Full Body Lift Surgery is done for people who have had massive weight loss. Typically these are patients who have undergone bariatric surgery or who had vey strong determination and had massive weight loss through diet and exercise, what we mean is by 20 to 30 to 40 to 50 kilos of weight. The body tries to shrink the skin to maximum possible level but after 6 months of 1 year down the line you may find the skin does not shrink anymore and the skin starts sagging. That is the time when a Full Body Lift Surgery has to be done. This is a surgery which is a straightforward surgery, not painful and done under general anaesthesia. However it is a long surgery and you may have to staying the hospital for a day and there will be drains to help prevent further complications and once the drains are removed you will be given special garments to wear called the pressure garment which will hep he body to contour to your own self. Following a Full Body Lift Surgery, these surgeries are long surgeries and you will be under anaesthesia for maybe 4 to 6 to 8 hours. It may take about a day or 2 to recover after a Full Body Lift Surgery and having recovered form these surgeries, you have to give time for the wounds to heal. The typical time taken to heal is 10 days to 2 weeks. However people with massive weight loss or redundant skin or abdominal or the girth fat, suture healing will take time. So you should be prepared for this. It may take upto 3 to 4 weeks for this to heal. So typically I would say the downtime is about 3 to 4 days in the hospital, about 10 days of care in the hospital where you come for regular dressings, and 4 weeks for all the wounds to heal.
