March 6, 2026 conflict update on the war involving the United States, Israel, and Iran. Over the last 48 hours the situation in the Middle East has continued to escalate. Iran has continued launching missiles and drones across the region despite claims that its launch capabilities were largely suppressed. Gulf states including Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, and Saudi Arabia have all reported intercepting incoming weapons targeting infrastructure and civilian areas. Kuwait alone reports intercepting hundreds of missiles and drones since the conflict began.  The war is now expanding geographically. NATO air defenses intercepted a ballistic missile launched from Iran that crossed Iraqi and Syrian airspace before approaching Turkey, raising concerns about potential NATO involvement if a member state is directly struck.  Cyprus has also come under attack, with drones targeting areas near British military facilities on the island during the broader conflict.  At the same time the United States and Israel have intensified their air campaign inside Iran, targeting missile bases, air defenses, and military infrastructure as part of Operation Lion’s Roar, which began with coordinated strikes on February 28.  The conflict began with a decapitation strike that killed Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and several senior officials, triggering massive Iranian retaliation and raising questions about leadership succession inside Iran.  Meanwhile the war is spreading beyond the Middle East. Azerbaijan has accused Iran of a drone strike on an airport in its territory, while NATO has increased missile defense readiness following the Turkish incident.  The fighting is now affecting global oil markets, shipping routes, aviation, and military alliances as countries across the world react to one of the most dangerous geopolitical crises in decades.
