The new CALGreen requirements on embodied carbon went into effect on July 1. This presentation will cover the three pathways to comply with CALGreen, including the requirements, implementation tips, and successful case studies. The speaker will discuss how the life cycle assessment pathway can be used as a design tool to create buildings with lower carbon emissions, less waste, and a longer useful lifespan. About Our Speaker Isabelle Hens is a Senior Environmental Designer at Atelier Ten in San Francisco. She focuses on embodied carbon and daylight and leads the envelopes working group. Isabelle has published two peer-reviewed journal articles on mass timber, presented her work on facade embodied carbon at four conferences, guest lectured on sustainability at several top California universities, and taught the first course on the embodied carbon of buildings offered at UC Berkeley. Isabelle is a member of the Embodied Carbon Group within the AIA California Climate Action Committee, a group leader within the CircuClarity industry initiative around glass circularity, and a steering committee member of the CLF Hub in the Bay Area. She is passionate about reducing the negative impact of buildings on the environment while maximizing the positive impact of buildings on occupants.
