Ever wonder how the Flamencos do the basic palmas, or hand clapping rhythms? The two types of hand clapping are shown. 1)Sordas: (soft) From the word sordo meaning muted or muffled. 2)Agudas: (loud or strong). Alternative terms for loud palmas are Seco: (dry) or Claro: (clear) or Fuerte (strong) Just the basics here of the bulerias rhythm, (12 beats to the measure), with a little help from my Flamenco dog Tookie. Accents are on 3, 6, 8, 10 and 12. Some of the Flamenco dances which adhere to this rhythm structure are Solea, Bulerias, Solea por Bulerias, and Alegrias - to name a few. Towards the end I quickly build up on speed because my neighbors were just about to mow their yard. You can also count this rhythm a different way, which may be easier for some; (I will capitalize the accents.) one two THREE one two THREE one TWO one TWO one TWO... and so on.
