Lesson 56 takes us through one of the most destabilizing — and liberating — realizations in early Workbook practice. “My attack thoughts are attacking my invulnerability.” If that is true, then what feels like threat is not coming from the world. It is coming from the lens through which the world is seen. We move from thought… to sight… to seeing differently… to recognizing God in everything… to realizing that God is in everything because God is in the mind. This progression is not poetic. It is structural. First, the belief that we are under attack. Then, the admission that perception reflects identity. Then, the willingness to see differently. Then, the recognition that truth remains behind every image. Finally, the collapse of the illusion of separation. The world that appears to threaten hopes, wishes, plans, bodies, and futures may not be an external force at all. It may be projection. And if projection can be recognized, it can be withdrawn. The thumbnail image — “You are not the lens.” — points to the central pivot of this review. If the lens is not identity, then what is? If the projector is being held, who is holding it? And if attack thoughts are self-generated distortions, what remains when they are set down? Lesson 56 is not about fixing the world.
