In this talk, Prof. Jiang Xueqin reframes capital as more than “money” or “wealth.” He argues that capital functions as a system for extracting human energy—and in a world where energy becomes attention and focus, the real prize isn’t just your labor, but your concentration. Using the landlord–peasant model, he explains how extraction evolves over time: from tangible stores of value (like grain), to scarcer abstractions (gold), and finally to money as an all-consuming, endlessly scalable goal. The deeper the abstraction, the easier it is to keep people chasing “more” without a natural stopping point. He then outlines the role of anxiety as a control technology—how debt, inequality, and wealth destruction (war, crashes, depressions) keep people fearful, overworked, and locked into the cycle. In his view, boom–bust isn’t simply “natural”—it can be manufactured to reset the game and intensify extraction. Finally, he introduces transnational capital: elites with no lasting loyalty to nation, place, or people, moving wherever they can protect wealth, reduce taxes, and avoid backlash. From there, he argues that closed networks (what he calls “secret societies”) exist to solve a practical problem: trust, coordination, and moral distance—using authority and conformity to get individuals to do what they normally couldn’t. Viewer discretion: This talk includes discussion of violence, coercion, trauma, and controversial claims as part of an argument about power and control. It is presented for analysis and discussion, not as verified fact.
