Preterite Tense (Pretérito Indefinido) Used to describe completed actions in the past. Examples: 👉 Se despertó a las siete. — She woke up at seven. 👉 Cogió un taxi. — She took a taxi. 👉 Entró en el edificio. — She entered the building. 👉 Comenzó a hacer preguntas. — He began asking questions. 👉 te llamé varias veces — I called you several times. 👉 no me contestaste — You didn't answer me. 👉 empezamos el día a las cinco — We started the day at five. 👉 tuvimos que ir a la estación — We had to go to the train station. 👉 pasó algo imprevisto — Something unexpected happened. 👉 llegó con mucho retraso — It arrived with a big delay. Typical time expressions: 👉 ayer (yesterday) 👉 el sábado pasado (last Saturday) 👉 esta mañana (this morning) 2. Reflexive Verbs Reflexive verbs describe actions done to oneself. Structure: se + verb Examples: 👉 se despertó — she woke up 👉 se levantó — she got up 👉 se vistió — she got dressed 👉 se aseó — she washed up Common reflexive verbs: 👉 despertarse (to wake up) 👉 levantarse (to get up) 👉 vestirse (to dress) 👉 acostarse (to go to bed) 4. Time Expressions Important time structures in Spanish. Examples: 👉 a las siete en punto — at exactly seven 👉 desde las diez hasta las cinco — from ten to five 👉 todo el día — all day 👉 el sábado pasado — last Saturday 👉 todo el día — all day 👉 a las cinco de la mañana — at five in the morning 👉 hasta las cuatro y media de la tarde — until four thirty in the afternoon 👉 toda la noche — all night 5.
