Today I will summarize Romans chapter 12, where Paul taught believers how they should act toward God and other people. Paul taught that people should present themselves and their bodies as a living and holy sacrifice to God, and that this is their spiritual service of worship. He told them not to be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of their mind every day so they can prove what the will of God is for their lives. Paul taught that believers should be humble and not think of themselves higher than they should. They shouldn’t think of themselves lower than they should either. Just like there are many parts of a human body, that is how people should think of all the other believers in Christ. Not all body parts have the same function. In the same way, not all Christians have the same function. Some believers prophecy, some serve others, some teach, some encourage, some give, and some show mercy. Each person should exercise each gift that God gave to them according to their faith. Paul continued, saying ‘you must hate everything that is evil. Cling to everything that is good. Be devoted to each other and be diligent in your work. Rejoice in hope, persevere in tribulation, be devoted to prayer, and give to the needs of the saints. Bless those who persecute you. Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep. Associate yourselves with poor people and never consider yourselves better than another Christian. Do not be wise in your own eyes. Never pay back evil to anyone. Never take revenge. Remember God promised that He will take revenge for you. Give Him room to work. But you feed your enemy and give him something to drink. Do not be overcome by evil but overcome evil with good. The most important verses in this chapter are Romans 12:1 through 2 which state, ‘I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.’ The thing I think the Lord wants us to understand after reading this chapter is that He wants all believers to offer themselves as living sacrifices to Him each day. He wants people to be leaders and be transformed in their mind, not to be a worldly follower and be conformed to this world’s wickedness. God wants people to know that each Christian has a certain gift and should perform a certain function in the body of Christ on earth. He wants people to be patient and rejoice while they wait in their suffering, because it is only temporary and is growing godly character in their lives. God wants believers to associate with poor and lowly people, because they should see people as He sees them instead of how the world sees them. And God wants people to never take revenge on anyone because He promised to take care of things in His own time. Are you offering your life as a living sacrifice to God each day? Do you even know what that means? Why don’t you come to the Lord if you haven’t already. Call out to the Lord to have mercy and save you. Repent for your sin and turn to Jesus for salvation. He is offering you new life. Jesus humbled himself and died on a cross, and the Father raised Jesus from the dead. God said if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and if you believe in your heart that the Father raised Jesus from the dead, you would be saved. Why don’t you do that right now?
