Brewery Review: San Gabriel River Brewing - Liberty Hill, TX

IT ALL STARTED IN THE GARAGE… Patrick had just moved to Texas in 2013 and John had been here since 2002. Patrick was a Custom Home builder in NY and John still works for IBM. John being a home brewer for over 30 years, this was just something that two brothers could enjoy with each other. Well then came the problem, they had a lot more beer to drink then they had thought about, so they were giving it our to coworkers, friends and neighbors. All whom loved the beer and told the brothers they should do this to sell.. Although it sounded great that wasn't really what the brothers were going for. That all changed in Sept of 2014 when they went to the Texas Craft Brewers Festival in Austin, that's it they were hooked. John owned 9 acres of property next to the North Branch of the San Gabriel River and 7 of it was nice and flat and prime set up for what they wanted to do. Over the next year and a half recipes were complied, tried corrected and tried again until they had a few really good ones and a building was built. The brewery opened on April 23rd, 2016 and believe it or not it opened with the use of the 25 Gallon Brew System shown in the picture above. That quickly was found out to be way too small so the expansion began, once, twice, three times and now they work off a 3.5BBL(108 Gallon) system, with (2) 7BBL Fermenters and (2) 3.5BBL Fermenters, (2) 3.5 BBL Brite tanks and (1) 7BBL Brite tank. 11 Different styles of beer on tap with about 25 in the recipe book, distribution at 18 HEB’s, local bars and grocery stores. Needless to say things have changed. The brewery has a quant Taproom, large outside covered seating and lots of space of roam.
