#darktourism #urbex In the late 16th century, over 5,000 medieval corpses were dug up from Evoras cemetery. The graveyards were full and the Franciscan monks needed to make way for more bodies… Their skeletons were brought to the chapel and stacked upon each other, filling the entire room to the ceiling, creating multiple designs and patterns from each body part. Two desiccated bodies lay on beds, one is that of a child, cursed, so that they would never decompose. These places are known as an Ossuary, many of these can be found around the world, usually created after a mass death.
