One of the most beloved video game tracks of the last few decades. This is the pause screen watch music from Goldeneye 007 for Nintendo 64. I played so much of this game with my friends in high school! Check out all the details below, and subscribe for more synth demos. When I got the Volca FM I knew the time was right to do a cover of this track, with its iconic chiming glockenspiel / bell lead sound. That lead comes from the Korg Volca FM2. I tweaked the default "Glocken" preset to better match the sound from the game, with a bit of additional decay to let it ring out. I'm so happy with how that sound came out for this video. I'm really pleased to have picked up the FM2 and the appropriate midi adapter to fit it into my workflow. The bulk of the melodic material comes from the Waldorf Blofeld--when doing a James Bond track, how could I pass up the opportunity to feature the Blofeld?! It's playing three patches across four midi channels, which I've bundled into a multi patch which is of course saved to Multi 007. ;-) The parts are the main chord progression, two channels of string sounds (low and high) that fill out the background, and a pluck/woodwind arp that I designed to complement the lead chime sound. That arp isn't in the original track--I wrote it to build on the material and take this from a straight loop to a song with some progression in it. All of the Blofeld tracks were recorded as a combined stereo out and I added a little Chorus from Baby Audio Magic Switch to give it a little extra dimension. The bassline comes from the Moog Minitaur. This is another addition that wasn't in the original track. I wanted to make it my own a little bit, so of course I added my favorite bassline mono synth. The drums and the famous gong-like sound are played on the Volca Sample 2. The original sound was apparently created by slowing down a tambourine sample from the E-mu Proteus. I recreated it by slowing down/pitching down a tambourine sample that I downloaded. The midi is sequenced in my DAW and split out to the four hardware units with a CME Thru5 midi splitter. Minimal effects processing on this one, since it's mostly synths with their own built in effects. let me know if you have questions about it, and subscribe to check out more affordable synth demo tracks.
