Hiking Solo in -25°C. Mt. Michener, AB (Feb 16, 2025) I started my hike by crossing Abraham Lake, it was frozen but full of cracks. You could hear the thick ice cracking making thunder noises, made me very unnerved. Do not attempt this in March or after. The path starts in the middle of the woods of the beach, so it involved some log hopping and bush wacking a little. After that it was a pretty easy ascent for a while. Then I hit a scree slope which burnt out my legs a little. After scree I had to go through a short and wide chimney, which was actually fun and then ascent further all the way up to Phoebes Tit (that triangle on top of the mountain). About 50m below the summit is where I stopped. Without an ice axe, being solo and no rope I decided not to risk it any further. It was 3pm, way past my turnaround point and I did not want to descend in the dark alone and in the cold. Overall absolutely gorgeous hike, not too hard due to very little scree.
