(Feb. 27) --------------------------------------- [Notes:ANCHOR VOICE] [Notes:CU of cigar focus change to back] This year the main attraction at Cuba's cigar festival will not be Fidel Castro…or celebrities who smoke cigars…but instead it will be the cigars themselves. [Notes:wide of Hababo shop] Cuba opened its doors to the ninth Habano Festival on Monday. [Notes:wide of guests] Over one-thousand guests from more than 40 countries flew in for the five-day event. [Notes:CU of roller, cigar in mouth and plantation shots] Participants will visit cigar factories…enjoy cigar tastings and take trips to Cuba's most famous plantations - where the best leaves are grown. [Notes:wide people talking] Festival organizers hope to get aficionados together to exchange ideas and enjoy a good smoke. [Notes:(SOT: Habanos S.A. Co-President, Buenaventura Jimenez) "It's a continuity to the successes of previous fairs and it will certainly be a success this year as well."] This organizer says the fair always has been and will continue to be a success this year. [Notes:pic of castro/shots of cigars] In past years Castro has attended the festival and signed a small number of finely crafted humidors that were auctioned off for charity during the event. [Notes:CU cohiba cigar] This year, hopefully the new line of Cohiba cigars known as Maduro 5, or Mature 5…will hold the attention of participants instead. The cigars are finished with a wrapper leaf that has been harvested and aged for five years. [Notes:roller with leaves] Wrapper leaves represent the final stage of cigar-making and are essential to how well a cigar burns. [Notes:plantation shots] Despite a four-decade old U-S trade embargo on Cuba, last year 370 (m) million dollars worth of cigars were sold.
