Blue Peter Attacks Shap In Fine Style

Hello & Welcome to Harnetty Railways In this brief video we are in race mode again but this time for the 1st of 3 unnassisted mainline steam runs over the famous 2 grades of the West Coast Mainline Grayrigg & Shap over the next 6 weeks. The 1st of these timed Shap Trial runs was with Locomotive Services Limited's A2 Pacific 60532 Blue Peter while working the 1st Saphos working of the 2026 season from Crewe to Carlisle & back via Shap. We start this video at Greenholme at the start of the 1 in 75 gradient to Shap Summit as we see the A2 in fine fettle following a restart from Grayrigg after being looped to allow a late running FTP service from Manchester Airport to pass after a points failure in the city earlier in the day. Despite the restart the A2 put in a fantasic performance on the grade with 9 coaches & no diesel on the rear & was doing 48mph by the time the summit at Shap was reached. The added bonus shot was at Wigton with him being looped at Penrith North Lakes gave us th opportunity to overtake the train & get to Wigton to see the A2 accelerate away on the last stretch heading to Carlisle which is were we end this video.
