Time for some more vintage vehicle action, and whilst I am normally not one to video your common "half-cab" vehicle, I will occasionally make an exception dependent on the vehicle, so I did for this fine machine, that being London Transport AEC STL2692. New in 1946, HGC225 was new to the London Transport Country area division as STL2692, one of an order of 20 AECs bought as a stopgap to displace older vehicles pending arrival of new RT Regent 3's, comprising the final order of STLs. It only ran with LT for 9 years from 2 garages. Watford High Street (WA) from 1946 to 1952, and from the newly opened Garston (GR) from 1952 to 1955. Upon withdrawal it was purchased by Grimsby Corporation becoming their 47 until final withdrawal in 1968, where it has been in preservation ever since. Our journey sees us as one of two videos from the ever excellent Amersham & District-run Hertford running day, comprising a recreational run of route 331A from Buntingford, Greenways to Braughing Station. STL2692 is powered by a AEC A173 7.7 litre engine coupled to a 4-speed manual gearbox, as opposed to the more commonplace pre-select gearbox you would expect, which does produce some distinctive whiny tones. So, I hope you all enjoy.
