Lokapala Ensemble: Tagu Jams Myanmar Traditional Thingyan Live Session

This live session is really special for us. For the first time here on Tagu Jams, we bring you a Myanmar traditional ensemble ( Sine Wine) to give you a taste of vibrant Myanmar melodies. Since we started on this musical journey, we always wanted to showcase Myanmar traditional music in our own little set up. So it's a dream come true that we are able to collaborate with Myanmar traditional musician Htet Arkar who leads Lokapala Ensemble. The month of April, which coincides with the month of Tagu in Myanmar calendar, is also a special time of the year. (We are named after this month obviously.) This is when we celebrate our new year in a festival known as Thingyan or water festival. With everything that has been going on in Myanmar, it has been three years since we have celebrated this holiday. So it was a great pleasure simply just to hear these Thingyan tunes that we have grown up with over the years. Chills. Literally. We also invited an old friend Jewel (Yadanar Oo), who we have worked with since her days with ‪@TheFourMusic‬. She is better known for her hit pop songs (like Message) but here she showcases her vocal range by singing Shwe Mann Thu - a Thingyan classic song from the movie Thingyan Moe - in a fully traditional set. It's truly a pleasure to work with her again. From production point of view, we chose to go with a four-camera set up for this special live session. We hope it adds to your viewing pleasure.
