Haddock Fishing on Jeffreys Ledge , Ground Fishing in Maine

On Saturday 19th 2021 the weather forecast was 5 kts or less and seas 1 foot or less so we ran the 25 miles to the North end of Jeffreys ledge here of the coast of Maine. On the way out we saw, dolphins, whiles, basking sharks and a puffin which I have never seen this far south. We arrived on the ledge at 6am and had caught our limit on haddock by 11am. The legal limit is 17” with each person being aloud 15 fish. Most of the fish where in the 19”-22” range and we tossed back the 17” and 18” to let them grow. We caught several small cod, Pollock and cuck and two red fish one of which was 13.5”. We did have a line out for halibut but did not have any bites. The fish was all cleaned and either frozen for later or given to family. If you are going to make the run to Jeffreys please do so in an appropriate boat and only on a day where the weather is perfect. Please make sure to have all your communication and safety gear in order and tell someone where you are going and when you will be back, it is still spring and the water is still cold enough to kill you fast, 50 degrees last weekend. There are also several excellent charters that run out of southern Maine. The Bunny Clark being the best in my opinion.
