Seven weeks ago, the siege of El Fasher came to an end amid extreme violence that claimed thousands of lives. This tragic event forced tens of thousands of civilians to flee the city and seek refuge in safer areas, particularly the town of Tawila. This town has now become one of the most densely populated areas for displaced persons in North Darfur. Although Tawila itself is currently spared from the fighting, the surrounding area is not suitable for accommodating survivors as it is a desert with extreme temperatures ranging from intense daytime heat to freezing night-time cold. Access to food, shelter and water is extremely limited and difficult to obtain, putting the population in a precarious situation that threatens their survival. In this emergency situation, where there is an immense amount of humanitarian need, the TGH team in Sudan is working hard to meet the vital needs of the local communities : ▪️ Distribution of drinking water via tanker trucks; ▪️ Installation of four flexible tanks equipped with taps to facilitate and secure water collection; ▪️ Distribution of jerry cans to help families collect water; ▪️ Distribution of hygiene kits and raising awareness of the risks of waterborne diseases. ▪️ Provision of psychosocial support via mobile teams in the camps. TGH plans to continue its emergency operations in the Tawila region with the support of its operational partners and donors : European Union, Humanitarian Fund for Sudan, US, French Initiative for Food Security and Nutrition (IFSAN). Since April 2023, a silent war has been raging in Sudan. Despite numerous appeals from the humanitarian and international communities, access to affected populations and the delivery of humanitarian aid remain extremely difficult, with too few resources being mobilised to meet the immense needs of civilians. In the face of this catastrophic situation, TGH is determined to continue supporting Sudanese civilians. We are calling for a humanitarian corridor to be opened to the city of El Fasher.
