Ethics in Photography: Kevin Carter; The Vulture And The Little Girl

In today's Ethics in Photography video then we talk about the work of South African Photographer: Kevin Carter Kevin Carter stunned the world when he captured an image that many people have named "The Vulture and The Little Girl". In the photograph a Vulture can be seen preying on a little girl who is taken a much needed break as she makes her way to a feeding station. The image was taken in 1993 during Kevin's trip to Sudan. The nature of Kevin's trip to Sudan is unknown. But what we do know is that whilst there Kevin spent allot of time photographing victims of the famine. Kevin's " Vulture and the little Girl" photograph won a Pulitzer prize. However, many people question the ethics of the man behind the camera with one critic saying. “The man adjusting his lens to take just the right frame of her suffering might just as well be a predator, another vulture on the scene,”. Kevin's story really is a sad story to hear. In fact the next time you question your own ethics with regards to your photography.
