Watch Part 2, the back nine at East Potomac, here: • East Potomac Golf Links (Blue) with Hickor... The Blue Course at East Potomac opened as a reversible nine holes in 1920 designed by Walter Travis. The facility was intended to be the finest municipal golf course in the country and a model for what muni golf could be in the United States. The course was so busy that Travis added another reversible nine holes in 1923 followed by an additional nine-hole course designed by William Flynn in 1925. Years of heavy traffic and deferred maintenance eroded Travis’ original design and the course became notorious for its rough condition. In 2020, the National Parks Service leased management of East Potomac and the other two D.C. municipal courses – Rock Creek Park and Langston Hughes – to the non-profit National Links Trust, which has in turn invested heavily into restoring and revitalizing all three courses.
