Most houses of the Roma in the Knezja district in Bulgaria aren’t connected with the sewer system. With the help of the EU that will be solved very soon. This brings along one problem: the Roma work outside a lot and so they like to poop in their outhouse in their garden. Social worker Elena has sorted it out: ‘The Roma community has many problems, but we agree about one thing: a sewer system is an absolute necessity.’ vpro Metropolis was a video project by Dutch broadcast organisation vpro, that ran from 2008 to 2015. Metropolis is made by a global collective of young filmmakers and TV producers, reporting on remarkable stories from their own country/city.
