While private investigator Jeff Randall is away briefly, after collecting evidence for a woman about her adulterous husband, partner Marty Hopkirk visits the woman to collect payment. While waiting to see her, she dies in the bath, apparently of a heart attack, but Marty isn't so sure. Before he can convey his thoughts about the woman's death to Jeff, he too dies. When Marty's death is dismissed as a hit-and-run, his ghost returns, visible only to Jeff, to tell him it was murder.
