John 20:24-31 describes Thomas, one of the twelve disciples, who was absent when Jesus appeared to the other disciples. Thomas expresses his doubt, stating that he will not believe until he sees the nail marks in Jesus' hands and side. A week later, Jesus appears to the disciples, including Thomas, while the doors are locked and invites Thomas to touch His wounds to confirm his faith. Thomas then proclaims, “My Lord and my God.” The purpose of this Gospel is to encourage belief in Jesus as the Messiah and the Son of God, so that readers may have life in His name.
