In August 2022, the Dreamwalkers (Social Club of Immersive Visualisations), led by Berlin-based artist Elya Yalonetski, organized a spontaneous immersive performance pop-up festival in the town of Stolberg. The event used history in a playful, carnivalesque way, taking elements from the past and reimagining them through performance. The festival began with a Baroque concert for viola da gamba, performed by Ekaterina Gorynina on the square in front of the town hall. This place is strongly connected to history, especially because of the Münzer monument. During the time of the Reformation, this was a place where important events involving Thomas Münzer and Martin Luther took place, marked by conflict, violence, and strong ideas. Starting the festival here was a conscious decision, linking the artistic action to the revolutionary spirit of that period and to the real historical weight of the location. Moved by the music, the costumed audience slowly became a procession. Together they walked through the town toward the castle. This collective movement symbolized a light-hearted but meaningful reworking of historical stories about power and resistance. As they passed through the streets, the participants enacted a carnivalesque inversion of social roles and hierarchies. When the procession reached the castle, the group took it over in a joyful and peaceful way. This symbolic victory was announced by the sound of an alphorn played by the internationally known musician Arkady Shilkloper. His music functioned as a celebration and a public declaration, signaling the creation of a new, imagined world through artistic ritual. The deep Alpine sound of the alphorn echoed across the valley of Stolberg, marking the festive and ceremonial nature of this carnival-style conquest.
