The 1968 Chevrolet Chevelle, a tribute car, boasts a powerful 396 big block engine paired with a turbocharged 350 automatic transmission. This car is meticulously crafted to resemble a classic SS 396 big block vehicle. Its predatory stance and meticulously applied paint job indicate that the builders have put in considerable effort. This potent big block car packs a thunderous 396 cubic inch V8 engine. It features a flashy restoration with several choice upgrades that set it apart from the rest. The electric shade of Blue Metallic, while modern and glitzy, is not the original color. Such colors were only seen at discos in 1968. The sleek paint job accentuates the muscular design of this sophisticated street brawler, creating an erotic visual effect. The photo booth lights dance off the bright sheetmetal, highlighting the gentle arc of the Chevelle’s body, the aggressive rake, and the overall aesthetic appeal. Although it’s a head-turner, the car doesn’t go overboard with loud metallic flakes or dated stripes/decals. The top driver-quality paint is deeper and shinier than any factory finish ever achieved in 1968. It still looks perfect on this dialed-in A-Body. The silver-gray accent stripe that wraps across the top of the front nose and runs the length of the lower body effectively breaks up the blue color. This Chevelle appears to have been meticulously stretched over its chassis, and the tight fit of the panels and professional preparation give it a high-quality appearance. It’ll surely impress at any local car show. Contrary to popular belief, this ’68 Chevelle is not a trailer queen. In my humble opinion, Chevelles should never be that. This is a higher-end, driver-quality example that loves to be driven and turns heads at every local car show with its exceptional curb appeal. There’s a gleaming SS grille at the front, a paint-matched SS tail-panel in the rear, and proper ‘SS’ and ‘396’ badges all over. The brilliant chrome bumpers add even more shine to the already flashy design. We appreciate that they skipped the gaudy racing stripes and the cowl-induction hood, opting instead for the more understated double-hump hood and the aforementioned silver decal. Take a moment to admire this Chevelle from a distance; it’s truly a sleek muscle car. Step inside the Chevelle, and you’ll be greeted by a well-cared-for cabin that’s been meticulously restored since its full restoration. The black vinyl interior boasts fresh seat covers on the bench seats, matching carpets, clean door panels, and what might actually be the original headliner (just a bit tauter). Every small detail piece is meticulously crafted, making it a true labor of love. A stock-style dash is topped with a crack-free pad, flanked by a set of factory-style gauges and an aftermarket tachometer in the center, keeping an eye on the big block’s revs. The 3-spoke steering wheel offers a sporty feel in the driver’s hands, while the column-shifter allows for easy gear selection for the TH350 3-speed automatic transmission below. Options are limited, but you do get a Vintage Air A/C unit with controls in the center stack, and the retro-style AM/FM/AUX stereo just below it plays tunes through upgraded speakers in the kick panels. The back seat appears rarely used but comfortably seats three willing passengers. The spatter-painted trunk is stock and bare, proudly showcasing solid panels and sheetmetal that narrate the car’s easy life away from the elements. Under the hood, a date-code correct 396-inch V8 delivers horsepower, properly dressed in bright Chevy Orange paint and adorned with just the right amount of shiny accents. Positioned between the glossy black fender wells, it looks fairly stock, though a few upgrades include a sporty performance intake, a big 4-barrel carburetor, chrome valve covers, an aluminum radiator, and a throaty Flowmaster dual exhaust system, undoubtedly adding a few extra horsepower. The big motor is incredibly responsive and runs exceptionally well today, providing ample torque at any speed and in any gear. The TH350 3-speed automatic transmission effortlessly handles the immense torque, ensuring the car can cruise at highway speeds without any compromise. A robust 10-bolt hangs out at the rear, adding to its heavy-duty appeal. Power front disc brakes provide reliable and confident stops, while power steering ensures an easy driving experience. The large diameter H-pipe dual exhaust system expels exhaust through Flowmaster-style and large angled tips, creating a distinctive sound under the rear bumper. A quick inspection underneath reveals super-solid pans meticulously finished in stain black paint, complemented by fresh components throughout the suspension. The wheel wells are meticulously filled, showcasing flashy Ridler wheels and 245/45/17 front and 285/40/17 rear Nitto performance radials.
