The Hymn “Glory be to Jesus” is a well-known Christian hymn associated especially with lent and devotion to the Precious blood of Christ. The hymn originally comes from an Italian devotional hymn of the 18th century titles “Viva! Viva! Gesu, Che per mio bene” (Live ! Live! Jesus, who for my sake ….). It praised Jesus for redeeming humanity through his precious blood shed on the cross. The hymn became widely known in English through the translation by Edward Cawall in 1857, for the Birmingham oratory, a community associated with John Henry Newman. The Marathi adaption was conducted in our Lady of Grace Church by Fr. Peter Paul Fernandes in 1970. The hymn is usually sung to the tune composed in 1857 by Friedrich Filitz. They hymn reflects biblical teaching about the redeeming blood of Christ especially passages like : 1 Peter 1:18-19 Hebrews 12 – 24 Liturgical use : Often sung during Lent; Used in Devotions to the Precious blood of Jesus; Good Friday Devotion.
