In this walking tour of Candelaria, Tenerife, we explore one of the most important spiritual and historic towns in the Canary Islands. Starting from the Candelaria roundabout and its colourful mural, we walk down to the Atlantic seafront before discovering the main street, traditional Canarian houses and beautiful wooden balconies that define the town’s architecture. Candelaria is known as the spiritual capital of Tenerife because it is home to the Basilica of the Virgin of Candelaria, patron saint of the Canary Islands. Although the basilica was closed on this Monday visit, its importance remains central to the identity of the town. Currently, the main square in front of the basilica is under renovation, changing the usual postcard view. However, this offers a different perspective — allowing us to explore the upper streets, colourful façades and authentic local atmosphere beyond the landmark itself.
