One of the hardest parts of emetophobia is trying to tell the difference between anxiety nausea and actually being sick. The sensations can feel almost identical — and for many of us, that uncertainty is what sends us into panic. In this video, I talk about something I’ve learned through therapy and lived experience: the difference often isn’t found in the stomach… it’s found in the moment a threatening thought appears and how we respond to it. That split second when the thought shows up — “What if this means I’m going to throw up?” — is where everything can shift. When we engage with the thought by checking, scanning, analyzing, or seeking reassurance, anxiety escalates and the nausea often intensifies. Panic can create a very real “sick” feeling that feels convincing and overwhelming. But when we practice noticing the thought without answering it, allowing the sensation without trying to control it, and choosing not to follow the fear story, anxiety has space to rise… and then fall. Over time, this is how the nervous system learns that it doesn’t need to sound the alarm. This video isn’t about promising certainty or eliminating symptoms. It’s about learning how to respond differently in that crucial moment — so fear doesn’t get to take over. If you struggle with emetophobia, OCD, or anxiety-related nausea, you are not broken, dramatic, or weak. Your body is trying to protect you — and with practice, you can learn how to let those sensations pass without spiraling into panic. 💛 You’re not alone. 💛 You can learn this skill. 💛 And it does get easier with time and support. #emetophobiaawareness #emetophobia #vomit #anxiety #ocdrecovery
