Cigar Review No.35, Pt.2 - L'Atelier LAT54: In part one of our L'Atelier cigar review, we met the men behind L'Atelier Imports - Pete Johnson (known for the Tatuaje brand of cigars, among several other things), K.C. Johnson (Pete Johnson's older brother - well that was awfully nice of Pete, now wasn't it?), Sean Casper Johnson (apparently not related to the previously mentioned, but that works out nicely!) and finally, Dan Welch, owner of New Havana Cigars and entrepreneur. Dan Welch has been a big carrier of the Tatuaje brand and it's many lines, including the more rare, hard to get releases that send everyone scrambling once or twice a year. He has also produced his own line of cigars, "Surrogates," among which is the "Skull Breaker," and other such offerings... In part 2, we get further into the specifics of the blend. L'Atelier was the first line of cigars produced by the company of the same name and was initially comprised of just 3 sizes - the LAT52, LAT54 and the LAT56. The cigar is made in Esteli, Nicaragua by Don Pepin Garcia (My Father Cigars) and the blend is Nicaraguan. However, the L'Atelier is not a Nicaraguan Puros, but in this case, that's not a bad thing... The cigar is finished with a specially grown wrapper, produced by none-other than the Oliva's.We briefly mentioned them during the Fuente episode and how they assisted with the creation of the famed OpusX. We have yet to do an episode on them specifically, and very much want to - but before we could get the chance, here they are yet again, assisting with the creation of another cigar line! This time, they've grown a very special Ecuadorian wrapper dubbed, "Sancti Spiritus," Latin for, "Holy Spirit." Now I don't know about you, but when you start naming cigar wrappers after, well, "God," as far as so many are concerned, I expect that to be one amazing wrapper! I can tell you this much - it's a gorgeous looking cigar wrapper. More on that during the episode!
