July 4th, 2021 - How God Exceeds Our Expectations Genesis 29:14b-35 tells the story of Jacob and marriages to Leah and Rachel. Rachel was the younger sister that Jacob loved and worked for seven years to marry. At the last minute, Laban tricked Jacob and instead he ended up marrying Leah, the older sister. Jacob agreed to work for another seven years to be able to marry Rachel. They were happy to be married yet Rachel could not get pregnant. In this passage, we learn Leah bore Jacob four sons. In fact, the fourth son, Judah, was the ancestor of Jesus Christ. God used Leah and exceeds the expectations. Bishop Claude Alexander reminds us about vinyl 33 RPM and 45 RPM records which had an A side and a B side. The music company expected the hit to be on the A side but often when released, the B side song became the hit song. For example Elvis Presley's hit song Hound Dog was on the B side. Bishop Claude Alexander, is senior pastor of The Park Church in Charlotte, North Carolina and a Strategic Alliance Board Member with Leighton Ford Ministries. He uses the example of the B side of a record and the story of Leah and Rachel to show us how God defies our man-made plans. Where we start in our lives is not what matters. Many people start life on the B side with little hope of a future. Maybe because of your birth order, race, gender, zip code or education, you ended up on the B side of life. Just know with God, nothing is impossible. In his sermon, Bishop Alexander explains it is not where we begin but where we end our lives. God sees us in ways others do not. Our Heavenly Father exceeds all human expectations.
