Project video captured in May 2025. The project with 25% progress at that time of inspection. The main objective of Siran Right Bank Canal Irrigation Scheme is to divert water from siran river to irrigate the rainfed land available in the areas lying on the south-eastern side of project along the right side of siran river. The construction of Siran Right Bank Canal will provide ensured irrigation supplies to a culturable command area of 11872 acres (CCA) out of 13833 acres gross command area (GCA). the cropping intensity is proposed / expected to be enhanced from 80% to 140% i.e. at par with the enhanced / achieved cropping intensity of upper siran canal which is a fully developed 60 years old project and lies in the vicinity of the newly proposed project of siran right bank canal. The construction of the project will contribute to the general economic and social uplift of the people in the area by creating employment and business opportunities due to construction of the project. The direct receipts of the project will be available in shape of irrigation water charges. At present, no ensured and properly managed irrigation facilities are existing in the project area hence a new project has been proposed to provide irrigation facilities to rainfed land. The proposed project site is located downstream of Shinkyari town and close to Tanda village in District Mansehra. The construction of Siran Right Bank Canal will provide irrigation supplies on perennial basis to the culturable command area (CCA) of 11872 acres. The project will contribute to the social and economic uplift of the area. Although the area lying on the left side of the Siran river is under irrigation by the existing civil and government canals at the downstream of the diversion site, still there is a need to divert the water from Siran river to irrigate the existing land lying at the right side of the river. The project envisages the construction 65 km long Concrete lined irrigation canal to irrigate 11872 acres of land lying on the right side of Siran river. Other technical parameters of the project are as under: A. Hydrology 1. Catchment Area of Siran River up to proposed Weir site / offtake point of SRBC = 554 km2 2. Catchment Area of Siran River upto Phulra Gauging Station = 1057 km2 3. Mean Annual Rainfall = 119.80 mm 4. Designed Discharge of proposed SRBC = 65 cusecs 5. Minimum 10-daily discharge available at head of SRBC (using Catchment Area Ratio Method) = 101.3 cusecs B. Technical parameters The project includes the construction of 1. Diversion weir alongwith under sluice across Siran River 2. Regulator at head of SRBC 3. Concrete lined canal which varies in bed width from 3.5 ft to 2.5 ft and depth 3.25 ft to 1.5 ft 4.
