VIDEO CONTENTS: [0:00] Introduction [2:19] Variables [4:42] Yarn [5:36] Color Mixing Goal 1% DOS (1 g dye / 100 g yarn) for each of the colors. 100 mL of dye total per sample Jacquard Bright Yellow, Brilliant Blue, and Fire Red 1% stock solutions (1 g dye / 100 mL dyestock) Purple: 75 mL of blue + 25 mL red Yellow Green: 25 mL blue + 75 mL yellow orange: 90 mL yellow + 10 mL red Teal: 75 mL blue + 25 mL yellow [6:16] Semi Solid Purple 24 cups of water + 100 mL dye (75 mL blue / 25 ml red) stir to evenly mix! Heat to a simmer Add 100 g of presoaked yarn to the pot w/ no acid. Add 2 T white vinegar Stir frequently. Slowly heat up over 20 minutes Add 3 T vinegar to let the rest of the color absorb. 15 minutes later turn off the heat and let the yarn cool off before washing [9:46] Tonal Purple Dry yarn, hot pot. 8 cups water + 3 T vinegar. (Could be higher for even faster color absorption) Heat on low for 20 min [12:38] What is color breaking? [14:48] Teal The set up I most often use is somewhere between the first two examples. 12 cup water + 2 T vinegar. Add the dye, heat to just below a simmer Add presoaked yarn and stir to distribute the color. Then stop and leave it to absorb the color. wait 20 min [17:15] Orange Hot with no acid at start 8 cups of water + dye and heat to a simmer. Then add presoaked yarn and stir it a bit. Then add the acid (3 T white vinegar added to the side and don't stir things up.) wait 2 min, stir a bit but you can see the uneven color coverage already [19:37] Green cold with acid 16 cups of water + 4 T white vinegar Add dry yarn and don't stir it up very much. heat for 20 minutes and reduce heat to low.
