We'll work through this question together step by step. We’ll start by understanding and analyzing the question then we’ll go on to identifying examples, planning, structuring, and finally writing the essay. As we work through each of these stages, I'll give you some tips on some of the common mistakes you need to avoid. The final CELPIP Writing Task 2 Survey Response looks like this: Discussions about the potential uses for the vacant land downtown have been getting quite heated throughout the community with some showing a clear preference for a mall and others leaning towards a recreational area. My feeling is that a recreational area would be the better choice because of its positive impact on the environment and people’s health. Firstly, the health benefits of spending time in nature are well known. Moreover, apart from the dog park, our city offers few opportunities for walking, hiking and picnicking. The land in question is really quite extensive with both a natural pond and several treed areas. These features would provide an ideal backdrop for trails and swimming in the summer months and possibly skiing and skating during the winter. Secondly, in terms of the park’s impact on the environment, all those trees would remove much of the pollution that currently fills the air we breathe day in and day out. As a passionate bird watcher, I’ve noticed many species of birds nesting in those trees, picking at insects, and teaching their young to fly. It would be tragic for them if those trees were cut down to make way for a mall. In conclusion, my feeling is that a recreational area would be the better choice from both a health and environmental perspective.
