Welcome back, Adagio Group! In Lesson 6, students explored rhythm and learned how to feel the beat by working together as a musical team. We practiced whole notes, half notes, and quarter notes in a fun group game where each student wore a note on their shirt and had to arrange themselves into a group of four beats! Our new song from the Goldilocks workbook is “Broken Chair.” This is the part of the Goldilocks store where she sits in a comfy chair, but as soon as she sits down, the chair breaks! In this piece, we discovered a new musical concept called dissonance, which is that crunchy, unpleasant sound we hear when two notes right next to each other are played at the same time. You’ll notice that sound throughout the song! Students also began playing hands together, combining both melody and harmony.
