Watch my Asperger's documentary! ➤ • "Through Our Eyes: Living with Asperger's"... **TRIGGER WARNING** The sound of a fire alarm plays in this video. If you are sensitive to this type of sound, mute your volume at 00:55, 2:03, and 2:46. Katie tells the story of how an unexpected fire alarm test overwhelmed her. While sensory overload can originate from multiple sources at once, there are specific sights and sounds that can be distressing to different aspies--in Katie's case, it was this siren. Katie also wanted to express the importance of recognizing when a person on the spectrum is in distress, and offering to help. The most helpful thing for an aspie in preventing sensory overload is minimizing sources of distress in the environment to make the person more comfortable (within control). It may be turning down the lights, turning the TV or radio off, talking more softly, not forcing eye contact, giving them a safe area to be alone, etc. (depending on the person's needs). A little bit of consideration goes a long way, and a stressed aspie will likely be grateful after they're feeling normal again. Thanks for watching. :) Subscribe ➤ / alyssahuberfilms Alyssa Huber Films [Official Website] ➤ http://www.alyssahuberfilms.com My Asperger's Blog ➤ http://life-of-an-aspie.blogspot.com/ Facebook ➤ / alyssahuberfilms Twitter ➤ / alyssahubfilms ----- CREDITS ~Music~ Ken Elkinson - Palladium Paul Pitman - Nocture in D Flat Major, Op. 27, No. 2
