She says, "One obvious reason was that we are now half-century-old as a modern country and I wanted to write a post-colonial because i thought there is a certain amount of serious books on various serious subjects in India but I wanted to write a post-colonial overview and my definition of post-colonial is you say this I what we are and any faults that exist in India today we can no longer make any excuses for historical reasons so I wanted to give a picture of modern India with its faults to remind Indians what we can d ourselves but also what great success we can make and Snakes and Ladders where we have fallen down and where we have achieved.
