Lime Green Icicle Tower by Chihuly, MFA Boston
The tall ceiling and natural light of the MFA Boston’s Shapiro Family Courtyard inspired Chihuly to create Lime Green Icicle Tower (2011) especially for the museum’s 2011 Chihuly: Through the Looking Glass exhibition. Bright green, spinous, and 42 feet tall, it instantly became the focal point for visitors. According to Senior Curator Gerald Ward, “Pretty much from day one, people almost invariably ask, ‘Does this stay, is it permanent, can we keep it here?’” Curious about how the community came together to make MFA Boston the permanent home of this installation?
