NOTE FROM TED: Please do not look to this talk for mental health advice. This talk only represents the speaker's personal views and understanding of trauma, biology, and behavior. Claims around epigenetics, inheritance, and disease warrant further scientific investigation. TEDx events are independently organized by volunteers. The guidelines we give TEDx organizers are described in more detail here: http://storage.ted.com/tedx/manuals/t... Ashwini Govinda unpacks the concept of reparenting, the practice of nurturing our inner child, healing from past wounds, and transforming the way we show up as parents, partners, and individuals. Drawing from her clinical expertise and years of research, Dr. Ashwini explains how unresolved childhood trauma often shapes parenting styles, creating patterns that silently pass from one generation to the next. Dr. Ashwini Govinda is a trauma-informed psychologist, researcher, and Assistant Professor of Psychology based in Bengaluru, whose work bridges clinical insight, academic rigor, and creative storytelling. With a specialization in adult psychotherapy for survivors of complex childhood trauma, her practice is rooted in culturally sensitive, emotionally attuned interventions. Her groundbreaking doctoral research at CHRIST University led to the development of trauma-informed parenting modules for unwed individuals with childhood trauma, blending trauma theory, positive psychology, and emotional processing. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
