PUBOVAGINAL SLING Description of the procedure : The Pubovaginal sling is done with tissue surgically removed from other parts of the body such as the abdominal wall or leg (“fascial” sling), or with tissue from another person (“donor tissue” sling). It creates a ‘U’ around the urethra similar to the mesh slings but without the mesh. However, it requires another incision to obtain the fascia, and there is some extra risk to that part of the surgery. This sling is usually used when other simpler types of surgeries have not been successful or for women complicated by factors such as obesity that create a risk for failure of other types of surgeries Rates of surgical cure: 77-89% ( Average 81 % ) Complications : Difficulty urinating after surgery. New symptoms of urgency or urge incontinence. Injury to an organ (such as the bladder, urethra, or ureters). Internal bleeding. Infection at the incision site.
