#Delhicrime #Aayanagar #Fatehpurberi #southdelhi #delhipolice In South Delhi’s Aya Nagar area, serious concerns have once again been raised about market security. This time, the incident took place at Radhika Jewellers in the Sunday Market, where two gold chains worth approximately ₹3 lakh were stolen in broad daylight in just three seconds. The entire incident was captured on CCTV, and a case has been registered at the Fatehpur Beri police station under the Delhi Police. The incident occurred on February 25, when a young man visited the jewellery shop pretending to be a genuine customer. He carefully examined several chains, selected one, and told the shopkeeper that he would return the next day to purchase it. The shopkeeper did not suspect anything at that time. The following day, around 6:30 PM, the same man returned to the shop. He again asked to see multiple gold chains. Trusting him as a serious buyer, the shopkeeper showed him various pieces. According to CCTV footage, the man held two gold chains in his hands, pretending to inspect them. At that very moment, the shopkeeper became briefly busy on his mobile phone. That small lapse proved costly. Taking advantage of the distraction, the accused suddenly ran toward the door with the two chains and escaped within three seconds. By the time the shopkeeper realized what had happened, the thief had already disappeared into the crowd. The shopkeeper attempted to chase him for a short distance but failed to catch him. The stolen chains are estimated to be worth around ₹3 lakh. Interestingly, the accused was neither wearing a mask nor appeared heavily prepared, suggesting that he relied more on planning and timing than disguise. Police suspect that he had conducted prior reconnaissance. Visiting the shop a day earlier, selecting the chain, and returning the next day clearly indicates that the theft was pre-planned. He gained the shopkeeper’s trust and waited for the perfect moment to strike. This Sunday Market had already witnessed a serious crime three months ago, when a dairy operator was shot dead. Repeated incidents have created fear among local traders, who are now demanding stronger security arrangements in the market. The case also serves as a warning for business owners. If you use your mobile phone while handling customers, even a moment of distraction can result in heavy financial losses. In this case, the thief came with criminal intent, but had the shopkeeper remained fully alert, the accused might have been caught on the spot. Police have seized the CCTV footage and are scanning additional cameras in nearby areas to identify the suspect. Officials claim that efforts are underway to arrest him soon. Meanwhile, other shopkeepers in the market have been advised to remain vigilant and strengthen security measures. The incident highlights how criminals constantly look for opportunities, and even a few seconds of carelessness can lead to losses worth lakhs. Now the focus remains on how quickly the police can apprehend the accused and restore confidence among traders in the area.
