During low tide, the sand banks appear and it's a cool little walk out into the water. In parallel to the north-western motorway, it almost takes you up as far as the Patiki Rd off ramp. I have done this walk for decades since I had my first 'Kala.' hahah This is Kala II. We went out during winter and part of the rainy season. My dogs were brought up in the rain, mud and wind - so, they not shy to run around and enjoy themselves. Kala and I popped out one day during the rain with very little wind and walked along the sand banks. As you can see from the videos, Kala enjoyed herself. We have a couple of trips out to the sand banks in this video - one during the rain and one during a sunny day. This is often a popular spot for wind surfers as it's easily accessible off the motorways. I always smile and am amazed at how so many windsurfers turn out when the wind is exceptionally good - they must plan a few of their annual days around the wind forecast for this spot. Once, I did try and take Kai with Kala but we didn't get out of the car park when an off leash dog approached us and pups started up. Those types of people are annoying. This is a nice little walk for most and the sand with shells is hard, which makes the walks stable. It's nice to take your camp chair out their with food and just chill out. I know that Pollen Island across the way is a protected reserve but I have always wondered - but ummm... how does one get there though? haha And if it's protected, what exactly is over there? I hope you take the opportunity to pop out for this walk with your furballs or without, it's a nice relaxing little stroll. Kala II. June, 2021.
