Watch part 2 here: • Restoring Poole Harbour: Farming Solutions... Poole Harbour is internationally important for nature conservation and is designated as Special Protection Area (SPA), Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and Ramsar Site. Nitrogen (N) loads entering the harbour have risen from c1000 tonnes/year in the 1960s to c2300 tonnes/year. Ortho-phosphate (OP) loads have also risen to around 50 tonnes/year. Important parts of the ecology are not meeting the Habitat Regulation (HR) conservation objectives. These short films give some background to the impact high nutrient levels are having on the catchment and the actions being taken by people and organisations in the catchment to resolve these problems. The first film gives a high level background to the problem and recommendations made by Environment Agency and Natural England in the Poole Harbour Consent Order Technical Investigation and Recommendations: https://www.gov.uk/government/publica... It details the work water company, local authorities and farmers are implementing.
